In 1955, John Wilkinson joined Larry Connell at the Leighton Buzzard
office of Connells where he did his 'articles' and learnt to become
a professional estate agent and surveyor. John was instrumental
in the expansion of Connells and was the Senior Partner and major
shareholder in Connells until 1978. John Wilkinson resigned his
senior partnership, and set out to present his own brand of professional
estate agency.
He built, with his business partner, Christopher Coles, a network
of twelve offices and departments across five counties and the practice
was highly respected as an effective, professional organisation
specialising in Country Homes. Consequently, as a result of the
major changes in the mid 1980's, the practice was approached by
major banks, building societies and insurance companies to sell
into their own chains of estate agents and, in late 1987, the partnership
was sold.
Disappointed by the impersonal style of estate agency offered by
these major institutions, Simon Wilkinson resigned from a corporate
practice in 1992 to join his father in recreating the brand of estate
agency that had proved so acceptable to their previous clients.
Now joined by some former senior members and some new members of
staff, they offer the 'Alternative Estate Agency' - a private, completely
independent practice offering informed advice on a broad range of
property matters, coupled with personal service from qualified professional
people. The partnership is growing and is recognised nationally
as a dynamic, ground breaking practice demonstrated by the achievement
of many national awards and Quality Assurance Standards including
ISO 9002 accreditation and the National Association Award as 'Best
Independent Estate Agent East Anglian Region 1996'.
In 1997, The Wilkinson Partnership won the "Nationwide" Cup and were finalists in the coveted “Estate Agent of the Year” awards in 2004, 2005, 2006 and in 2007 we won Gold Award and were the Winner of the Estate Agent of the Year Eastern Region as if that was not enough, we have been selected as Finalists again in 2008 and we have also won the Cartus Relocation ‘Best Region of the Year’ award 2007, demonstrating a consistency of achievement that is unmatched in the whole UK.
